Phlebectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes surface varicose veins.
Transilluminated powered phlebectomy is performed on our patient under light anesthesia. After two small incisions near the varicose vein, tumescent canula illuminator that contains fiber optic light makes vein easily visible. Fluid containing local anesthesia is infused under the skin, loosening the vein from surrounding tissue. A vein remover instruments are guided to the vein which is suctioned into the instrument where it is cut into small pieces & remove. The Patient usually awakes without any pain and are able to return home in an hour.
Health Risks of Untreated Varicose Veins
After the procedure, stocking is put on the legs which should be worn for 24 hours. After that, you can remove the stocking and have a bath and can put it back.
You should wear the stocking for at least two weeks after the procedure. You have to remove the stocking at night when you go to bed.
You can begin normal activity following your procedure, as light exercise with the stocking on do not life heavyweight that may cause pain in your legs.
You will feel some tenderness and pulling in the inner thigh or the calf for first 5-7 days.
Ice to the inner thigh for the mild pain is helpful the first few days
